The actual tables + blankets/futons + dip in floor to fit feet/legs under table is quite common in Japan during the winter. It's called a "kotatsu", and usually has a heater underneath the futon, keeping the entire thing warm. I don't think I've ever seen it with a couch-like layout around it, but hey, that sounds like an amazing combo.
