Although called a "FRENCH BRAID", this hairstyle did not originate in France. In French, the hairstyle is natively called tresse africaine (litterally: african braid).

That is not the point Black women do braids because our hair tangles badly and its the easiest way to wear it. Hence braids (mode of dressing ,including hair) is our culture, black culture. However we were judged for this hairstyle. Research shows that black women with weaves are more likely to get jobs than those with braids. Something being part of your culture (and a form of discrimination), copied by someone else of another culture (culture appropriation) is disrespectful to the "struggle", the black people struggle.
