Something like this happened at a school in my district (not my school, but still same district). Someone found out that someone else had brought a knife and intended to stab another person. They took the knife away and alerted a teacher. They were then suspended for "possessing a weapon on school grounds." Zero Tolerance is great and all, but it shouldn't also mean Zero Common Sense!

Pokemon creator has something to say 7 comments
guest · 10 years ago
They really are in a no-win situation. I mean, I know I've caught myself simultaneously wishing that they'd stick with the old Pokémon and moves and such and that they'd stop with the minigames, but at the same time wishing for new Pokémon and sidequests and imagining ones I'd create. And I'm not the only one. But ultimately, they know how to do their job, and it seems to be working pretty well for them.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play some Pokémon! *Teleports to last used Pokecenter and continues adventuring*

Union jack, Scotland to Scandinavia 12 comments
guest · 10 years ago
I knew that about the Union Flag/Union Jack, but I'm afraid I'm not quite British enough to notice if it's upside-down or not. I did go to preschool in London and lived there for one-and-a-half years, if that counts for anything... Never did pick up an accent or any particularly British idioms or spellings or other "clues" of that sort, though.

While you are absolutely correct, this was supposed to just be a funny joke, not a statement of absolute truth. So it didn't really need correcting.

To be fair, the brain has the skull protecting it, while the testicles are quite vulnerable. Additionally, because hockey is played pretty much at ground level instead of head height, the testicles are in more danger of being slashed by a hockey stick (I got hit in a pickup street game without a cup, and while it's not exactly the most painful place to be cut, it's still not very pleasant when you go to the bathroom and realize you're still bleeding) or smashed by a flying puck or sliced by ice skates than the head is. Also, your head has a much wider range of motion if you need to dodge than your testicles do.

No, this is not "hacking done the right way." This is digital vandalism. Hacking done the right way is making an operating system or coding a video game or hacking a phone, mp3 player, and Gameboy Advance into a single unit.

#22 recruit a group of friends and pick a target. Throughout the course of the day, at different times, each of you walk past the target and say "wake up, you're dreaming" or "this isn't real".

Actually, using "they" to refer to a single subject is incorrect grammar. Using "he or she" or "he/she" is the correct way to refer to the cat.

The spider, man 12 comments
guest · 10 years ago
This could end up being a bad thing, though. You might have a mean spider that tells embarrassing stories about you in front of guests. Or maybe it crawls under the bathroom door unnoticed and, right as you squat down to do your business, it shrieks as loud as possible to startle you so you slip and fall so your butt hits the water. Or you might get a spider that hides under your bed at night and whispers "there are thousands of us down here, and we're going to crawl all over you the moment you fall asleep and you'll never know" or creepily chants "go jump off the roof, you're just dreaming. Go jump off the roof, you're just dreaming. Go jump off the roof, you're just dreaming."

I wrote a short story when I was younger where humans had developed to the point where there was a kind of symbiotic relationship with technology, to the point where humans could "technopathically" control devices and had uplink with satellites and stuff like that. Then a solar flare (forgive me for the crazy science, I was really young) wipes out 90% of the satellites, putting the people who were connected to them in a coma, and the remaining humans had to find a way to restore things. All inspired by me realizing that younger people seem to have an intuitive knack for working technology they've never even used before and are better at it than older people.
Unfortunately (and somewhat ironically), the story was lost when my flashdrive was left behind at a bus stop. I was defeated by the absence of technology!

I'm scared to get in a fight because I have an irrational fear of hurting someone. I'm so weak, a good sweater would probably eliminate all impact from one of my punches, yet I can't get images out of my head of snapping someone's bone through their skin or causing internal bleeding or accidentally gouging out an eye.

I prefer a conservative dress code. If your shorts are so short that I can see your pockets hanging out from under them, there's a problem. That being said, the reasons schools give for such a dress code, namely that "it distracts boys," is idiotic and this flyer-maker is absolutely correct in how wrong it is. So while I would probably be on the opposite side of this person in a debate, I applaud her attack on an incorrect argument.
