There have been far too many instances when I've seen someone whining about being "triggered" by some innocent joke, mildly offensive comment, or valid opinion... Most of the time, I have to restrain myself from butting in and demanding, "Look, moron, does this give you flashbacks of the day you saw a man shot in the head? Does it take you back to the night your father, in a drunken rage, wrapped his hands around your throat in an honest attempt to choke the life out of you? Does is send you into uncontrollable sobs of panic or overwhelming grief, or make you want to cut just to have some tangible connection to reality? No? Then shut the hell up. Because I've been there, done that, and lived through it. Get over it."
