actually, in the kitty genovese one a teenage boy was woken by the woman's screams and called his father over to the window. they actually called the police, but they were too slow in arriving.
also, there were two attacks, not three, over a much shorter period of time than was reported, and only about a dozen witnesses, not 38, and most of them didn't witness the full attack.
