The weasel is one of the rare animals that if enough food can't be found, the mother will allow her babies to eat her alive, instead of the other way around.

Except his reign is 3-5 years max. Soon a younger, more prime lion will defeat the "king", proceed to murder all males and any females too young to mate with, and the cycle begins anew. Plus the reigning male is expected to risk his life protecting the pride (from hyenas and such). Males that are unable to ward off danger have been known to have all his ladies leave for other prides. The male has a dangerous job, he's not just a sex machine.
