Elon Musk Finishes World's Biggest Battery In Less Than 100 Days 8 comments

The "clock" didn't start until the papers were signed, at which point the project was about 50% complete. There was no way Musk could lose the bet. This whole thing was nothing more than a publicity stunt, advertisement for Tesla. The part that pisses me off is this ridiculous "bet" has completely overshadowed the project.

Someone grabbed his crotch and he did nothing. I doubt he'll risk his career and a huge lawsuit over childish name calling.

He didn't actually intervene in the mugging. He, along with several other people, simply helped the victim, who had been cut on the face.

That makes a nice sound bite, quote, but the scientific community has a long history of snubbing and outright blacklisting people that challenge "what's known."

Like I said the first time this was posted, RenderMan features shaders that make textures like that very simple. They probably spent more time getting the shirt to move and crease like material than they did on the texture of the shirt.

The huge companies control the connections, though. I'm not saying I agree with letting them do whatever they want, just that the companies, for the most part, created and maintain the connections to the internet.

RenderMan features shaders that would make something like that fairly simple. The rendering times is what usually takes so long. I think Sully from Monsters Inc. reportedly took 12 hours per frame due to his fur.

2020 Tesla Roadster compared to a Bugatti Chiron 13 comments

i don't get it. The company hasn't turned a profit, suffers from constant production problems, can't meet current order demands, the cars that are coming out have quality control issues (fit and finish, mostly), yet everyone wets themselves over the announcement of an upcoming car model - two models, counting the semi. The way things are going, there may not be a Tesla by 2020. If there is, I wouldn't count on it cranking this and the semi out in any volume.

No one has said any of this. You've just made up an argument out of thin air. This isn't even based on enough to call it a straw man argument. It's just invented nonsense.

Tesla making a profit would blow my mind. Billions in government subsidies, free advertising from just about every tech site, and not only is Tesla hemorrhaging money, but the fit and finish on the cars is crap.

Someone will take the $20, wait for UPS, take your package, too. People are stealing packages left and right. Why would you leave them $20 and note that a package is arriving and you won't be home?

Color blind people seeing color for the first time comp 6 comments

I hate to burst your bubble, but...these reactions aren't real. If the glasses do actually work (I don't know anyone that has actually had them work) it takes from 5 minutes to a few days to start to see a difference. Even then the difference is generally fairly subtle. All these people claiming to see color for the first time immediately after putting the glasses on are faking it or lying. Color blind people can see color, we just have a difficult time telling certain colors apart or identifying certain colors. No one is seeing color for the first time.

Glenn Danzig getting knocked out is still one of my top 10 internet videos. The only thing better than the video is Danzig's stupid interview later claiming he let the guy hit him to avoid being sued.

Children and the elderly are usually the victims in dog attacks. I know you think you're clever, but there's nothing funny about what these animals do to children. The tide's turning, though. The courts are finally, slowly starting to prosecute and victims are starting to sue pit bull owners. Even other dog worshiping idiots are beginning to see there's a problem with bully breeds and keeping them as pets is dangerous. I just hope you realize the problem before your dog kills or maims someone.

It's not required, but depends on the circumstances. If I'm moving or found a better job, I'll let my employer know. If my checks are bouncing, I'm not getting paid for all my hours, they're playing games, etc, screw 'em. I'll figure out the most inopportune, inconvenient time that will cause the most problems and let them know what I think of them and their mother on the way out.

The cathedral will feature a 1,000 person soup kitchen that will feed far more hungry people than you idiots sniveling about a fucking bell. You want to complain about something? Complain about an absurdly massive cathedral being built in the first place, not the cost of a single bell that's going into the cathedral.

It's worth pointing out that this is a bell built for the cathedral currently under construction in Romania and not just a trinket someone decided to buy on a whim.

Facts? This was published three years ago. Since then, more states have not only allowed medicinal marijuana, but many have allowed legal recreational use of it, yet the opioid crisis has only gotten worse. The junkies overdosing on heroin and black market Fentanyl don't give a shit about your weed, pot head.

Despite all the ridiculously romanticized articles floating around, Broken Heart Syndrome is rarely fatal. It's not caused by just heart break, either. Illness, surgery, general bad news, any stress can cause it.
