Yes. He was accomplice in two home robberies. His friend (age 16) was shot and killed by the police. However, Alabama has an ‘accomplice liability’ law that made him culpable as though he were the perpetrator. He was charged with felony murder, robbery, and another charge and tried as an adult. I’m guessing he ‘probably’ turned down the plea deal thinking he’d be exonerated since he was only ‘peripherally’ involved. Probably not the wisest decision given Alabama’s history with African-Americans, but that’s just speculation.
