And isn't the Pride Rock inspired by some place in Africa?
Also I'm preeeeeetty sure Olympus is a real mountain. It may not have Zeus's living room on top of it though.
And Scotland's full of castles, maybe not the exact one from Brave but you can find castles that come pretty damn close.

Guys, the man who directed Thor: Ragnarok (Taika Waititi) also directed and played in this awesome movie called What We Do in the Shadows. It's a mockumentary (mock documentary) about vampires. If you liked the style of humor in Ragnarok, you'll love this movie. I would even say What We Do in the Shadows is a lot funnier because it's an original concept, not just another Marvel money maker.

This is why black characters die first in horror movies. They don't own flashlights and thus can't see the monsters coming.

Uhhh, her books are the inspiration for anarcho capitalism? C'mon it would take you two seconds to Google that.
Rich fucks often worship her like a god because she told them that all you need to do to get rich is work hard and they believe that their daddy's inherited money and businesses somehow means they are hard working and poor people should just pull themselves by the bootstraps.

I mean, on the one hand, eating right and working out is important if you want to not feel like you're falling apart when you get older. But that's everybody's personal choice anyway. But really it depends on whether you were/are really morbidly obese or just a bit chubby, some people confuse healthy chub with unhealthy obesity. I mean, models, who are supposed to be the pinnacle of human beauty, are often required to be on terrible, borderline starvation regimes. And this extreme perpetuation of these twisted ideals, I mean models like this are on every ad, every magazine cover, every billboard, often makes people get the wrong idea about what healthy weight really is. Chances are, if you were/are just a bit chubby, that you were a lot healthier than her.
But anyway on the other hand she shouldn't have been such a bitch about it. As I said, it's everybody's personal choice.
PS: Melodie is such a lovely name!

You can't pin this one on women, you really can't. It takes two to tango. Some women like to play hard to get, sure. Now I would argue that nowadays they're in a minority (in my experience), but let's leave that aside. Similarly, some men lose interest when a woman expresses her interest "too soon". They wanna pursue her, they like the game more than they like the reward. So if a woman is genuinely interested, she either has the choice to play this stupid game, risking that she confuses and loses the man, or just say that the feelings are reciprocal, risking that the man loses interest.
So just don't pin this on women when men are just as guilty.

Agreed. There are women who like to be pursued, and there are men who like to pursue, and they even lose interest when the woman expresses reciprocity "too soon". I personally find it strange, but some people like it and I'm obviously not gonna tell them to change their kink.
.
But it's good that men nowadays are realizing that not every woman, in fact not even most women, are like that. Some years ago, "she's just playing hard to get" was usually the default assumption upon rejection, which resulted in a lot of uncomfortable, borderline stalker situations for many women. It's good that men are now realizing that making that assumption and pursuing someone who's clearly not comfortable with it may not be a good idea. I agree with Cavill that unwanted flirting shouldn't be branded as sexual assault, though. It dillutes the meaning and makes actual rape victims seem unserious.

Pterodactyl opera = screeching and screaming, if I understood correctly. The parents are embarrassed because their kid is a loud asshole and they want to leave as quickly as possible as to not inconvenience other people in the restaurant who just want to eat their meal in peace.
.
If I sound passive aggressive, I am. I think it's quite irresponsible of parents to take children who are either too young or badly behaved to know when to shut up to places like restaurants. I get it, you wanna go out and have a good time. But that's what nannies are for, you won't have much of a good time with a screaming brat by your side anyway.

She breasted boobily. Or: How (some) males write female characters. 24 comments

I didn't mean to sound hostile, I apologize if I did, and I'm glad we actually agree even through this slight miscommunication (or rather misunderstanding on my part). Yeah, the collecting nudes thing in the first game was, apart from the fact that the game was virtually unplayable, what really made me part with the series. I'm not against nudity/sex in games/series/movies etc. in itself at all, but I am against it when it's overused to gain attention – as you said, over the top fan service. And yes female writers are also absolutely guilty of this, especially when it comes to the social status and wealth of the characters. We can't really blame men or women but rather the stereotypes/gender roles that are so deeply ingrained in our culture that people still, knowingly or unknowingly, perpetuate them.
Yeah we could go on for hours and I'm not even sure that this problem has a solution, really. I thought that artists would know better than that but how can they when it clearly sells?

Every female character is either a fuckdoll for the male protagonist or a Mary Sue with extremely overpowered abilities, the only match for which is of course their beauty, because a strong female character must NEVER be ugly in the eyes of many writers (female writers included). It's pretty clear why the books and games are so popular with teenage nerdy boys. A) the amount of sex scenes, some of which honestly feel...forced. Like they were put there just to gain the reader's attention, and of course horny teenagers enjoy that. B) a lot of these nerds don't get laid due to many factors, internal and external alike. They envy the jocks, the so-called "alphas" who do get laid. These books and games provide a perfect outlet for them, in this world they can BE the alpha they so despise irl. Maybe my view is a bit too Freudian but honestly, I read the books (partly) and played the games (also partly, they were meh), and I truly see no other explanation for their immense popularity. (2/2)

@xvarnah I think that that's a bit unfair to GRRM, seeing as this was just one moment in the entirety of the books, the shortest of which is 800 pages. I think that GRRM, albeit he has some weak moments, is generally quite good at writing female characters.
But think that there are other writers you can demonstrate your point with. For example the Witcher books and short stories that were the inspiration for the games. I tried reading them, I legitimately gave them a chance, and they are interesting books overall, but Sapkowski's portrayal of female characters (which is then very well reflected in the games) is just... idk. Like he's stuck in the 50's but at the same time he's trying so hard not to seem that way. (1/2)
