The wife could have just been the more engaging person at the table. You see it a lot, 1 person will do little to no talking and the other will do most of the ordering, asking for extra things, making general conversation with the server. Of course they are gonna start looking more at that person.
Or considering the snarky comment on the receipt the guy was probably sending out a "im a dick" vibe and the server decided he was gonna ignore it and focus on the nice person

This is stupid. His parents obviously make a lot of money (he even said it in the post) why would you feel the need to pay your rich parents back for giving you gifts? They have lots of money, they want to spend it on their kid for being good. Especially if you could consider them earned by being a good student and kid overall.
Ya theres a lot of kids with entitlement issues, but imo a dis-entitlement issue is just as bad
