I remember I did this with Wash when I introduced my roommate to Firefly. I waited until the movie to spring it on him. He almost slapped me.

I used to think this way...but then I actually wrote something with symbolism and specific word choice, and I obsessed for weeks after I submitted it about "will the reader catch this subtle hint? Will they see what I did with the word choice there? Will they understand the significance of that phrase?"

While my music preference is in line with the one presented by this picture, I can't help but notice that it seems to be a comparison of appearance rather than sound. You didn't *need* to use such unflattering pictures for the unfavored artists.

True or false? 27 comments

I honestly don't know. I know I'm heterosexual, but I truly do not know how I'll be able to handle having sex. I've filed that question under "stuff I don't need to worry about until I'm in a serious relationship." And so far I haven't had to deal with it. The fact that I have no answer does bother me, though.

Also, cameras might help detectives. If a suspect leaves a clue as he/she is fleeing or if the crime scene is in a way that it won't stay preserved (like say it's outside and raining heavily), a camera would help people working on the case after the crime has happened. It would also help sketch artists if, again, the criminal was caught in the act but fled before he/she could be apprehended.

Incredible multiple screen setup 15 comments
guest · 9 years ago
Depending on the game, it can add to immersion. If you've got screens angled to your left and right and you need to look to your left or right, it adds to the feel of the game when you can physically turn your head and aim your eyes at the left or right screen as the character turns. Or for mecha games where there are multiple status screens, it helps with immersion. Same deal with simulators. And if you're going to use it for a crafting game, it can help to have the game open in one monitor and a wiki guide to crafting on the other.
But I will admit that they're more helpful for work than play.

False. Man or woman, I can't see flesh that's normally covered by a t-shirt or shorts without my mind feeling sick. Not because I consciously want to, mind you, it's just like how some people involuntarily mentally gag when they touch slimy things or see blood or hear someone vomit.

Cheating isn't okay, but it happened nevertheless, and as a result the white European invaders now own the land and the native Americans don't (except on reservations). The ends do not justify the means, but at the same time, the means don't nullify the ends.

You're not an illegal immigrant if you've won/bought/cheated the land and are the new owners. So this doesn't really work.

You could have some recursive fun if any of the books took place in the real world (where that library existed) and you could choose a book while in your book. (and continue recursing if that book also took place in the real world.)

I don't remember. I don't have it anymore. But this was back in middle school, so it was probably from RJL. I went through a bit of a computer pranks phase, and I got pretty much every free prank they had. Which was sad because I had, like, three friends, and I didn't want to prank any of them because I thought they'd think I was mean. But yeah, it was probably "RJL Popup Prank" or "RJL Picture Pop-Up" or something like that.

I remember a prank program I kept on my old flashdrive that let you use a picture of your friend and then put the prank on their computer, and they'd get popups using their picture.

I really can't. This is a fantastic story idea, and lots of men would have no problem enjoying it! And the ones who can't handle a female lead? They'd probably just walk out on a great movie. But I can't imagine any male tears. Unless maybe if there was a terribly sad moment in the film and all the women spontaneously and coincidentally left right before the scene and came back when it ended. Or if they banned women from seeing it. "Sorry ma'am, we can't let you see this. No women allowed. If you see it, that's one less man who will see it, and we need to have the maximum number of male tears!"

PhoTons of problems with that idea 8 comments

That depends on the nature of the time stoppage. For example, if you froze the passing of time without freezing motion itself, things would still happen, but it'd all be in the same instant. Which I think would be even cooler than the "everything stops" kind of time stop. Imagine being able to marathon three shows, hold a dance party, read a book series, build an invention, take a twelve-hour nap, and then finish your homework, all in one hour!
Unfortunately, physics has only proven that it works in reverse. If you are moving at relativistic speeds, you can take a year to do an hour's worth of stuff, but not the other way 'round. (Unless there's a new development I don't know about! Someone please correct me and say that we've solved total time manipulation!)

Yep. It's a common practice to make sure you're close enough to guard someone that you can't see. Also perfectly legal. It's only illegal if you impede them from moving.

A quote by George R.R. Martin 7 comments
guest · 10 years ago
I'm not sure that's quite true. Most villains have some kind of justification, goal, or cause that they fight for, but then there are the ones who've just said "heh, life's stressful, so I'm just going to release all inhibitions and destroy and murder and ravage whenever the randomness and chaos of my mind tells me to!" A villain without a cause can't be a hero, even to him/herself.
