Who downvoted? This is a reasonable concern. Why would I want to have a port that is less durable? It has more moving parts and looks like it could be snapped off.

The problem with plastics in the ocean is the amount of decomposed, microplastics that remain. That's what poses a threat to marine life. Plastic can harm marine life from the point it enters the sea to the point it's been broken down into smaller pieces. Animals still want to eat it. They get sick and die from it.
