And again: minimum effort will never get you out of minimum wage.
First you need to prove you're better than your job or salary and then, if you're lucky enough to work for the right company, either somebody will notice and offer you better, or you have the opportunity to apply for a better position os salary yourself.
None of those options apply if you just do what you have to. Success is based on hard work, which unfortunately doesn't ultimately mean hard work will pay out in success.

That's a shame. It destroys my instantly born idea of the one scientist who for decades doesn't get the award he's longing for, but all the other scientists just accept him for trying,

It always makes me chuckle when people saying that foreigners take their jobs and like two sentences after that all foreigners are lazy bastards looting the social system.
