I believe it has to do with how long they spent in the womb not really having to breath, so when they feel the familiarity of being surrounded by liquid stuff (like in the womb) they think they don't really need to breath

I'm not sure that's actually the case. The way I saw it was that the boy was so calm becausee his parents allowed him to express himself however he felt. I.e., if he wanted to wear a dress he wasn't yelled at for being "girly"
