You don't just get to pick and choose like that. Just because at one point in history we were at war with them that isn't a free pass to use whatever racist slurs you please.

3. Even if there are equally if not more racist terms thrown around, it's not an excuse to use a lesser (but still racist term).

2. Just because it's the way people talked 60 years ago doesn't make it acceptable today, even if it's relevant to the subject matter. Example: Just because you're talking about the civil war era doesn't mean you can refer to all black people with the N word.
