I don't know the english word ;-; Though that is probably it. And not, really, finnish is truly a language of it's own. The accent sounds similar, but other than that? Nada. And no, I don't really intend to learn more sami langauges; I know enough to speak to my relatives and pass on some important myths and legends to my kids and grandkids and so on, and that's enough for me. Maybe that'll change further down the line, though, because it really is a cool language! (don't worry about that, I'm the one that started spewing about Sapmí and sami people. actually, I should probably apologize because this is a shitton of information just dumped into y'all's laps.)

I bet it was! The snow and the várre and the northern lights lighting up the sky in the dead of winter... Though I imagine it was cold as hell. And harsh. But probably still rewarding!
Oh by the way, I have my own reindeer! My grandma and grandpa (on dad's side) owns a couple reindeers that they share with the rest of their village, and when I was a kid I visited and witnessed a birth... I named her Muohtarido (Avalanche (which isn't really a name, but I was ten and I thought it sounded cool!)), and she isn't really Mine, but, y'know. I actually kind of forgot she existed until now, I wonder if she's okay...

There's a movie called Sameblod (Sami Blood) that follows a Sapmí girl and what happens to her and her family... It's very realistic, and also quite awful. Also, slight fun fact after that depressing fact-spewing; In Sweden only samer are legally allowed to own reindeer!

Haha, yes, Sapmí is an "informal" country in Scandinavia, and samer (Sapmí people) are pretty much Native Scandinavians. It is also one of the languages spoken by samer, but not all of us speak Sapmí. I'm not fully Sapmí, but I was taught Lulesamiska (a kind of Sapmí) and basics by my grandparents! Samer has been around since about... Oh geez, I don't know? Somewhere around the Ice Age, maybe? But the gist is that we've been here a long time. My ancestors (and even some people now) lived with the reindeers in the mountains (fjäll, in swedish, várre in Sapmí) and praised the nature gods and ancestral spirits. And they continued to do so in peace, even as newcomers came to live in the land as well. But somewhere along the way samer lost their rights and lands, and for a very, very long time it was shameful to be Sapmí... It wasn't until recently that samer got proper apologies for being followed and oppressed against.

Sometimes I slip into english or sapmí when I speak to my friends, and they just tap me on my shoulder and go "Dude. Swedish, please." It's kind of funny when it happens because I speak very fast in either language and it's hard to keep up

Good changes, yes, but in this case the ice cube turned into water, which is... A tad extreme.
