Rape is one of those "rare" occasions where I think the government should shut up and back away. They don't know the emotional torment that pregnancy causes and to make it worse? I know a lot of people would say just put them up for adoption but does a woman deserve 9 months of hell for that? It affects their body, job, income, mind and soul.

Rape isn't as simple as that. I mean, to "solve it".
When she is raped, either abort or not is a bad option:
- If she doesn't abort, she has to carry the baby (so, the memories, and also the troubles that pregnancy causes to a person who doesn't wanted it) and then, give it on adoption, which causes pain both, the mother because after all is her baby, and the child because he/she is gonna be orphan).
- If she abort, it causes (in most cases) psycological issues to the mother, that may vary on each person, but it is there. And it takes a very long time to get over it (if she can).
The solution to the problem it's to prevent it, not trying to fix it.
I agree but if it's okay for the Woman to back out and get the abortion without so much as a word from someone else then the man should be allowed to do so as well without a word from anyone else. Fairs fair damn it! Not that I am running from anyone don't get me wrong, I can't wait to have kids of my own
When a man can fully share the risks of pregnancy, and I mean when they invent a machine where they can transplant an unwanted pregnancy into his body for nine months- then may be men and women will be on equal grounds.
If the man wants the child and is willing to accept full responsibility for the rest of the child's life without help of the mother why not? They BOTH made that child.
It makes me feel great that a bunch of old, conservative men even have an opinion on what women can have done to their body or what's in it. What the hell
I agree with saviourself that an exception would have to be made in cases of rape, but otherwise if someone could think up a way for this to be done, I'm all in.
I definitely see why people could be behind this- but what will happen if we have a generation of children who are not only unwanted but also a punishment by law to both the mother and father? What sort of environment and care do you think they'd grow up in? Children deserve to be wanted and cared for- not to be viewed as punishments.
That is a good point. Although whether a natural consequence is viewed as a punishment or not mostly depends on the person; I don't think such a law would necessarily make the child a punishment rather than a rehabilitation. The law doesn't give a couple a baby as ''punishment" for having sex; nature gives them the baby as a natural consequence. It's totally up to them whether they love or hate the child. Isn't it?
