"If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world." C.S. Lewis
If my parents won't leave me alone about this, I'd probably scream:
DONT FORCE YOUR BELIEFS ON ME!
And then take on the life of a hermit in a pillow fort with a stack of books, a laptop and ice cream :D
Ever since I was little I've had a hearing disorder that makes everything louder to me than it's supposed to be, and because of that I get bad head aches and ear aches when in loud situations. So I tend to avoid parties and loud situations, and even though my parents are aware of my condition, they get mad at me and tell me to try and be social at their parties instead of hiding in my room.
I have the same problem but when someone is talking to me I go deaf then I get yell at by my parents because I don't listen but I do hear them but it all the sound seem to faint away it already loud in my head to be honest.

Nothing truer has ever been said. I seriously cannot like this enough.
This was me when I was younger. Though since I had no friends, I got used to being alone and perfectly fine with it for it for awhile. When I finally made friends in high school, I was weird because I didn't know what to do lol.
On the one hand, yes I get it - I'm the last person on the planet who will advocate partying and getting drunk and all that. But on the other hand, this character seems a little...almost pretentious? "They're not even trying" etc etc. It's almost as if what this character wants is not necessarily for all focus to be on them, but rather what *interests* them, which is books and music.
