Most of the time I just build in underground blouse. .. one time on a server I had 10 diamond blocks just from mining at layer fifteen

Is fifteen the best layer? I usually mine at five, which is right above bedrock.

Before I started playing, I heard a common strategy to survive the first night was to dig a hole and hide in that until dawn. So I tried exactly that. I dug a hole into the side of a hill. Worked great... the thing is, I never moved out. I kept expanding and dug it into a Hobbit hole.

The game it's not that hard once you've played it for months :3
