It was pretty much fifty fifty whether the Brits called Autumn Autumn or whether they carried on calling it Fall too. Before the 16th century it was called Harvest and Fall took over for a while during the height of emigration to North America in the 16th/17th centuries before the Revolution. Just so happened Autumn won out on one side of the Atlantic and not the other ...
