But the truth is education is just gonna stay the way it's been for a very long time. It's not changing; as a matter of fact, it may just be getting worse...
It's a nice soundbite but that's all it is. Who says a good teachers won't try and change the way they teach if what they're teaching isn't getting through? Think about how you learn? If you had to teach yourself how would you have done it? Multiply by millions of people and tailor a system that works for all. Then compare how you, your parents and your grandparents were taught at school and you'll see that education is in a total state of flux looking for the magic sweet spot where everyone is happy with what's being taught and how it's taught. To misquote Homer Simpson "Actors. Is there anything they don't know?"
You have a very good point zombiestitcher. There really is no way to make everyone happy. But there are some things that I think would help the majority:
1) More interactive hands-on learning
2) Removal of certain portions of curriculum that have no use at all. (There are things taught in high school that are not even used in college, much less real life.)
3) Less multiple choice testing, more short answer.
Now I know that last one sounds dreadful, I don't like it either, but students are being taught how to take a test more than the material. If a majority of questions were short answer then students would have to learn the material rather than rely on guessing. These are just my ideas, I'm no authority in education though.
