We called the local wildlife reserve and they will come pick him up later today. I feel they would be the best option to take care of him.

If you pick it up your sent gets on him. Now the mom will abandon it, babies learn to stay very still and not move, this way they don't get spotted by predators. When your dad picked him up it's mom was probably close by.

Then she will smell her baby, and hear it's calls. If the fawn is not noted as safe, the doe will likely get hostile. Deer kill more people every year than any other forest animal.
