Look at our generation. Most of us, if not a large majority, are already totally accepting of gay rights and such. This is the civil rights movement all over again. We're the middle generation that is beginning to be exposed to it, and the next generation won't understand what the big deal was in the first place.
You should hear some of the people at my school when they talk about gays. It makes me so mad and disappointed. Then again, I AM from Tennessee, so it isn't too surprising.
If it makes you guys feel any better, I'm in Canada and I can only think of a handful of people I know who are anti-gay and even they won't say anything to actual gay people because they know their opinion is unpopular.
I'm from Alabama, lower Alabama… It's horrible here. My best friend is bisexual (we're dating now) and her parents are trying to "fix" her, saying it's a "sin" and all of that stuff. I hate it.
It is horrible. But think about the sit ins to protest against racism. They received more than death threats to get their point across. They're doing the same thing just to get their rights. Sometimes we have to sacrifice everything just for the good of others. Will you actually do something instead of relying on likes/dislikes? Will you stop acting like it's just an internet sensation or will you actually do something? You can make a difference as soon as you choose to. Don't wait on your "likes" to make a difference because they never will. Nut up and go out and take action.
You have a good point and I'm just voicing something here in today's social media honestly the internet is kind of the fasted way to gain recognition and awareness for things
So they are doing something. You don't know their life you don't know if they go out and support gay pride parades or what so..
I think everyone who is hating on people for their sexual orientation should look in to an incident in Laramie wyoming (not sure if spelled right) about boy named Mathew Sheppard and what happened to him. Should you do this, then and maybe then you'll understand why this is a good thing. Maybe just maybe you'll understand why people care. It's a powerful incident and you can also watch a play about it on youtube if anyone is actually serious. Have a great Day/Night guys ^_^
Honest question, would you all be so accepting if it was a pastor, or a hunter?
Someone who carried a bible wherever they went, and offered some biblical advice. Someone who possessed a concealed carry permit and wanted to teach kids firearm safety?
I'm fine with kids being educated about homosexuality, but shouldn't they also be taught about how religion saves millions everyday, how it has shaped the world, and also how to not accidentally hurt themselves should they come into contact with a gun?
If we could give more attention to all of these issues, rather than the 'family friendly' ones I believe the world would generally be a bit happier.
Oh boy... I guess I need to dumb down my comparison:
African Americans were denied rights up until the 1960s and into the 1970s, similar to how gay people are denied some rights today. There was an entire generation that was racist, then the next was more open, then the next didn't think anything of segregation or racism. Today, there is an entire generation that is homophobic an anti-gay rights, then our generation is more open minded, and the next generation won't see anything wrong with being gay. I hope this all makes sense to you now jayjay92 :/
Thank you soccerch1ck for helping me clarify :)
Perhaps not in America, anymore, but it used to be that way. Ever hear of the Stonewall Riots? And that's what's currently happening in Russia, Nigeria, Uganda, and Gambia. Except it's worse.
I'm talking about the general concept of the civil rights movement as compared to the issue of gay rights today. I completely understand how they are different; African Americans were oppressed and kept as slaves for hundreds of years, then when they decided to fight back, it was anarchy. The oppression of the rights for the LGBT community is not a violent fight but rather a political one because the United States doesn't want to scar their reputation again by repeating the violence and hatred seen during the Civil Rights Movement. I get that they are different events. But what I'm saying is that the concept of the oppression of rights and the change in mindset from generation to generation is exactly the same today as it was in the 60s. You're not the only one who studied the Civil Rights Movement jay. And if you want to continue to be close minded about this entire thing, then so be it. But quit acting like there isn't an issue with gay rights today.
I know this is really random but i need to share this .. At my highschool we have prom and they don't let same sex couples go together and I'm not gay but I believe that gays should be able to do what straights do it's almost like segregation and it's discrimination I don't think it's fair and there really needs to be a change
I hate this. I don't mind same sex marriage, let them do whatever, but when everyone is praising gays and giving them so much attention that's bullshit. Like honestly, who the hell cares?
The gays who don't always get positive representation on tv care. The gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people who want to wake up to an America that doesn't hate them care. This is showing children while they're young that we're normal and are to be respected and accepted.
Because people are stuck in their ways and are hurtful and opinionated. They need society to sway their opinion. So, if someone (like Disney) has the power to change society -- or better yet a generation -- and has the opportunity to do so, then they should take full advantage of it.
I dont think people should be gay. That's just how i was raised and thats what i choose to believe. But it doesnt really bother me if they're together or even get married, just as long as they dont get married in a church, especially in my church. Thats not because i hate gay people, its because my religious beliefs say that only a man and woman should get married not man and man or woman and woman. When they do get married in a church its the same as taking a dump on it to me. Why do people hate people who dont approve of gays because of their beliefs. I dont hear shit about people hating fucking sand monkeys because they hate Americans because thats how they were raised.
Okay guest I want you to replace the word gay in your rant with blacks and Jews your rant sounds a lot like racist support and segregation and inequality support. You can have your religion and believe in it but maybe you should
Consider that religion isn't always right. We aren't suppose to take everything in the bible literally anyways. Can you imagine if we lived in a world where being straight was shunned and you felt that you were fucked up in the head because you are
Attracted to the opposite sex it would hurt and you would pray to your god in pain asking why you were attracted to the opposite sex because it says it's wrong in a book that is so fucking old and shouldn't even be taken literally for the majority of it. Put yourself in someone else's shoes because you sound like a close minded son of a bitch
I just want you to think about how you would feel if you were gay if you were in love with someone who you couldn't marry or have children with. How would you feel about being told no that's not right. I'm not gay but I know for damn sure that every human being gay straight black white yellow red green or brown deserves to love and be loved by someone and I know that people like you will never understand. We are all made in gods creation and u truly believe gays or bi sexuals or straights are born that way. You can't change who you are attracted to
Guest, I respected you and your beliefs until I got to the "taking a dump on it" part. Surely you could have thought of a better way to say that. And the "sand monkeys" part... yeah you lost all of my respect.
The only mention of being gay is bad was in the old testement. Jesus' death got rid of the old covenant and created a new one,so believing being gay is a sin is denying that Jesus died
Because guests are trolls. Everyone that is part of the FS family is here because we all have similar interests and beliefs. The guests don't and they're trolls about it. If they did agree with us, then they'd make accounts.
It's actually very interesting this thread. Also super ironic how whoever posts that they don't believe in homosexuality is immediately berated and given dozens of dislikes. Those of you who support gay rights fight for equality, correct? It's funny how you can't accept the fact that others don't agree with you and immediately disagree with them. Equality right?
That's kind of the entire point of my post, I asked questions because I have no answers. It's an issue I don't really like discussing on the internet. Besides my post has nothing to do with the gay issue it's more of asking why you aren't able to respect others opinions but are able to respect marriage decisions of others.
Have you read through the comments at all? I understand and respect that people have beliefs dissimilar to mine, but I won't take them bashing homosexuality sitting down. None of these "anti-gay" comments are nice or respectful, so we have every right to defend our beliefs from their berating.
I honestly think that there are some legitimate points to their arguments, but don't they too have every right to defend themselves from the array of berating they're receiving from you?
Absolutely. They absolutely have every right to defend their beliefs. But when, in their defense, they belittle, mock, spit at, hurt, stereotype, name-call, and are overall ignorant toward people who oppose their beliefs, they cross a line.
Hahahahaha fuck off atheist little twit we can have our own opinions and beliefs and I'm christian and accept gays so shut up and stop being so stereotypical of all Christians
Guest 1: Not all Christians are bigots,
Hiapoe: Not all atheists are stereotyping twits.
Neither of you are going to get anywhere by slinging around insults. Part of being in the LGBT community is acceptance and love.
Has anyone else noticed that when you try to teach children that SSM is a positive thing, you get praised as a hero, but when you try to teach them that it's a negative thing, you get accused of indoctrination?
I guess double-standards aren't really that bad once you get used to them though...
I think it's because the term indoctrination is often affiliated as hate, so when you teach a child to hate or judge, it's indoctrination. I've never heard that term used in reference to teaching love and acceptance, so I'd say that's the difference.
Also, what is SSM, I've never seen that abbreviation before.
SSM = Same-sex marriage. Sorry, I thought that was more common.
I see what you're saying, but I don't see how that distinction matters. Indoctrination is indoctrination, regardless of what you are being "indoctrinated" with.
That's all besides the fact that most Christians don't teach their children to hate or judge anyway. And in my personal conversations, most people who oppose teaching religion to children just talk about how it's allegedly wrong to put opinions into children's minds before they're old enough to form their own. It seems like that would apply either way. I'm just thinking out loud though.
I was taught from a young age that gays, lesbians, and transsexuals were disgusting and should be killed. I was taught bisexuals didn't exist. But later I found that I'm a gay transsexual. I was taught hate. And I know many others who were as well. The Christian school I went to had plenty of examples. Hate isn't natural. It has to be taught. Children are not born hating anyone.
My parents were never violent, but they avoided LGBT people like the plague. I wasn't allowed to talk to them. I was yelled at for hugging my gay friends. When I realized I'm trans... I felt completely alone. And I hated myself. I prayed every day for God to take the feeling away, thinking I was going to go to Hell for it.
Supernovamike, I see what you're saying, and I do agree with you. Teaching children is teaching children, no matter what you're teaching. And I totally agree with your statement about Christians, I'm Christian myself. There is a difference between telling kids that something is wrong and teaching them to hate people who do this, even though I disagree with both. I think the only place we disagree is on whether SSM or love is wrong. But you do have the right to voice your opinion unless it's hateful, and you don't seem to be. And ditto on your reply to songofthewhiteatag.
And what about suite life of Zack and Cody? They grew up, too! ;)
So they are doing something. You don't know their life you don't know if they go out and support gay pride parades or what so..
My parents are lesbians and I am not but i fell hurt when they are offended

they ask so many questions and provide no answers. Why even comment? Here I go asking questions...
BULLSHIT
