Yea I saw something the other day it was literally just a bunch of paint splatters horizontally on a canvas and it went for like 3 mil or more. What the fuck.
Well, this might be a little wrong because I've heard of people buying a canvas entirely filled with blue paint for like 3 million dollars. That's the kind of art that I don't understand
It's not really being an a*shole, it's just disrespectful. Someone worked hard on that (no matter how simple it is) and you shouldn't try to challenge them. It's their art.
For the most part, I don't ridicule any art. I figure that if they made it, at least they like it. I may not like it or want to hang it in my house, but they can do whatever they want with it.
If you're going to expose your art to the world, the world has a right to respond back. If you can't handle criticism and only want good things to be said, you're not ready to be a professional artist.
I finished an investigation of conceptual art last month (it took me more than a year to complete it) and I can say that art got lost after Marcel Duchamp's "Fountain"... I'm not saying I'm right it's just what I think of modern art. So if that makes me an asshole in a museum well... Yes I am.
That's absolutely right... I made the investigation because I used to think that I was wrong about modern art and I wanted to be able to appreciate it but when I finished it I understood less and felt more annoyed...
All because modern art is more of a snobby elitist community than anything else. They pay $40 million for a painting not because it's worth that much, but so that can say that this painting is worth that much. Don't bother trying to make it make sense.
It's called Onement VI, if you don't believe me.
