I think all artists have potential...except modern art. Seriously, a dude paint a canvas blue and puts a yellow stripe on it and makes 40 million bucks, and I can't sell my detailed painting of a snow leopard for $15

people buy it because they say it has a deeper meaning but this artist is just getting $40 million for dipping a paintbrush in paint. i would so rather own a detailed painting that i like than a painting that has a "deeper meaning" that i dont know

They're not necessarily buying the art. They're more than likely buying the artist. Like with Kanye's $120 plain white t-shirt. You're buying the brand name.
