While I agree with this post in the sense that the rich and powerful unjustly blame the little people, minimum wage was never meant to be enough to support a family with. It was expected that people who wanted a family would go through the necessary procedures to be able to provide for that family. Minimum wage jobs were meant for kids.
That's just the problem. Things are so wildly unbalanced that any shift in pay is a seismic shift in small business earning potential. Raise the minimum wage by 50 cents and big companies have no problem, but small mom and pop operations will be hurt more.
That would be age discrimination. Why would it be ok to pay 1 guy to flip burgers for $7/hr because hes 18 but some guy thats 23 would have to be paid $10 for the exact same job? (made up numbers since mw is different in most states)
What you are talking about is youth wages, it happens and can be good in areas where there is low youth employment as it means employers will employ the younger people, which is great for younger people who struggle to get jobs when the employers can get somebody a little older and wiser for the same salary
