Same with bands/singers. "you aren't a true fan unless you've been there since day 1" well, i doubt you were anyways and cocka doodle fuck you

Exactly. What if the band first got started before I was even born? I couldn't have possibly been there since day 1 but that doesn't mean I'm any less of a fan

This is how I feel as a newbie doctor who fan. I am not very far in it, and it probably doesn't help that I'm still only on the tenth doctor, but yeah, I get told by other doctor who fans that I'm not a true fan because I haven't watched every god damn episode. Well excuse me but I like it, and I watch it, if that doesn't make me a fan then what am I?!
