You know you're with relatable people when the silence isn't awkward

It's only awkward if you make it awkward.

I usually just ask people how their cat is doing, but it gets pretty akward when they don't have a cat.

I do the same. But more so to allow other people to talk about things they love and know about. Everyone wants to be an expert some time.
