Someone, around 2000-2001, simmering happened and a stench cloud from there went father north than usual and hot my home town. It was so bad that people bombarded the local police with phone calls inquiring about chemical spills/warfare and whether or not it was even safe to go outside. It was the worst thing I've ever smelled in my life.
