They aren't used for herding as much as protecting. They're called guardians of the flock. I've got two and they're wonderful. (:

My dads old employer had two, the eyes gave them the most human like face. It was creepy.

I have two of these absolutly great dogs, very protective and loyal. they are very good at sensing emotion, and will cuddle when they know your sad. also one of mine tried to attack my sisters ex boyfriend who cheated on her

be advised only downside is health issues with most big dogs and they get expensive

You'd also be surprised how many large dog breeds think that they're lap dogs.

Great Pyrenees' are so big and cuddly :)
ALSO----- if anyone is considering owning a Great Pyranees, PLEASE make sure you have researched the breed thoroughly! They are wonderful, but please remember they are supposed to be livestock guardians and when not brought up and socialized properly can be unpredictable around other people. This one obviously is great around people!
