Not necessarily, women are known to have more liabilities in most countries for example maternity leave etc and are often considered to be stereotypically 'gossipy' and most fields are dominated by specific genders anyway e.g more women work office management than men, more men work in architecture than women.
Seriously? Woman have babies and are gabby? Employment should not be based on stereotypes and biology, but ability and intelligence. Shit, 50 years ago we were having this conversation about African Americans in the work force.
Except when you are hiring somebody, you don't know the person's ability or intelligence all that well yet. Sure you can get a vague idea from their resume and the short interview, but the rest is going to come from stereotypes. Stereotypes are a thing for a reason. If a large number of people didn't do whatever the stereotype is, it wouldn't ever get called a stereotype to begin with. Doesn't mean every single person in that group does whatever the stereotype is, but a large number of them do.
Not saying I necessarily agree with all mickymouse is saying, just saying you can say you are hiring purely on ability and intelligence all you want, but its really gonna be a lot more about your subconscious thoughts about the person, stereotypes playing a large factor in that.
The guests are right, as much as the idea of stereotyping sucks, it is one of the main ways to judge somebody for a job. Would you hire a slob as a fashion coordinator? No. Would you hire an obese person as a fitness instructor? Probably not. It doesn't matter if they might have been the perfect person for the job, if their stereotype doesn't fit; you most likely won't hire them. Sadly we don't live in an ideal world
If a slob has years of experience as a fashion coordinator and education in that area, you bet your ass I would hire that person over a pretty girl who happens to dress well. Would I hire an obese person as a fitness instructor? If they are good at their job, and have proven in other areas that they know what they are doing, sure I would. Just because somebody doesn't look right for a position does not mean they are not right for that position. Stereotypes are used for snap judgments, first impressions. Any business owner or manager who HIRES based on stereotypes is a bigot and not good at their job.
