Oooohh ooooohh ooooohh! Do you know what a golem is?I had a phonetic situation with my phone and discovered the correlation. I never thought to look up what it would mean, and I wasn't into it enough at the time to research deeper meanings.
Pretty much, they're folkloric beings or entities that are made of inanimate things. So it kind of makes sense to me that Gollum would be obsessing over and loving a magical, inanimate object. I get a big kick out of that.
My sister's phone kept autocorrecting "Golden Girls" to"Golem Girls" like an hour before I saw this post and the comments... It struck me as hilariously well timed, and your knowledge of golems just made it that much better. I tip my hat to you!
Aah :D thanks :D I love researching folklore/myths, and your comment got me to do more research on golems. Did you know they're generally of jewish origin? Some rabbis have been said to be able to create them from inanimate matter because of how close they are to God, but they cannot make them human, because only God can do that according to wikipedia.
I did know they're primarily part of Jewish culture/folklore, but did not know the bit about the rabbis. I've been meaning to dig deeper on the subject but haven't had much time, so it's awesome that you did! I was going to mention the Jewish aspect but I was afraid I'd bore you. Not everyone is into that stuff, and I think it's most excellent that you are.
You should totally research it! I found it very interesting :D and the manner of brining them to life (and destroying them) is particularly interesting, but I won't spoil the surprise for you ;)
I'm so all over that if I ever get out of work! And you win my gold star of greatness for the day for just generally being an intelligent, interesting person! :-)
Either's fine.
