Playing off the worst steriotypes of very intelligent people for cheap laughs is funny?
The "pretty" girl is also not very bright and that steriotype is also played for cheap laughs, is funny?
They desperately try to visually present the smart girl as being not pretty, is funny?
*sigh*
I'm calm, I just get a bit riled up about it sometimes.

The part that really honks me off about the show is a bit of the show's history in preproduction. Penny (under a different charecter name I think) was supposed to be beautiful AND smart, but... at some point the decision was made to change her because the charecter "wasn't believable."

What does that say about equality and "pop culture?"

True, its very stereotypical in some regards, but its also very enjoyable, especially when you are a nerd and you realize that you actually do some of the things they do. Sometimes its nice to get your ideals out of the way and just enjoy a show for the sake of the show.
The show is pretty much based off stereotypes, that's what makes it funny and enjoyable. I myself find it absolutely hilarious, because I can relate to many of the things in the show. Just like @idoubledareyou said, if you don't like it, don't watch it.
The show really is just a cheap comedy. It's characters have no integrity of any sort (ie. how Sheldon acts like a dog in one episode...). It's just created for cheap laughs so if you want that go ahead. If you want a work of art turn somewhere else
This post is so right the show is just an unoriginal, stereotypical, poorly written show which appeals to those whose ego is inflated to the point that they believe their social awkwardness and "intelligence" puts them above everyone else and makes them oh so unique when really these self titled "nerds" are really the lowest common denominator, this show's main audience.
