Actually national American football is usually played by men....uh...does that mean rugby is American football?Could've just said "If you're watching this in America,rugby is our term for football,we just have to be different from you."I mean,you already took our colors.(Red , white and blue on the flag.)

The difference is that American footballers wear protective padding and helmets, while rugby players do not.

The only gear Rugby has is a mouth guard, and cleats. maybe a scrum cap. It is also played by both genders, and it is continuos. It doesn't stop after every play. Though American Football is loosely based on rugby.
