I read the first one as DAR-TA, and the second as DAY-TA

In the country the language originates from its called DAY-TA but why can't Americans say DAR-TA as long as they are aware of the other pronunciation. After its freedom of speech.

I go with how TNG pronounced Brent Spiners character.
It's either a soft a like "ah" or hard a, where you actually say the letter a's name. Don't know anyone who uses ar.

I've never heard anyone say data with an r. Where in that word did people think it was appropriate to add an r in there?

I prefer pronouncing it data
