Would the cost of healthcare ever stop you from going to the hospital? E.g. If you got stabbed but it didn't hit any organs etc you just needed stitches would you go to the hospital or just patch it up yourself?

Yes... Many americans don't even bother to go because they now they will be in deeper debt then tey already were... -A Brit

I don't know where you're getting your information from A Brit, but we (Americans) go to the hospital when we are stabbed. There is no way of knowing if vital organs were hit or not, you can still die from internal bleeding and lets not even get into the inevitable infection that will result. We might not go if we have been sliced and the wound isn't deep and not really bleeding, but a stab will send any conscious American to the ER (if you've you been left for dead in an alley, that's a different story).

Usually in most moderate size cities with 2 basics it's base line 400-600. If there is a paramedic it's 600-1000.

It does cost. Insurance, if you have it, helps, but not everyone has insurance. There are organizations and subsidies that help people. I know this information as a paramedic/firefighter/nurse. And, the new affordable care act is not going to provide relief for this.

the reason we don't provide free health care is because that would require higher taxes and less pay for the doctors. it would also lead to worse health care. in america the cost doesn't matter because just about everyone can get to a hospital in at least a half an hour and the hospitals have state of the art technology. the cst also make wages for doctors higher and it makes it one of the best professions attracting lots of people to it

I work for an insurance company. The average ambulance claim is $2000.00. The insurance will cover it to 100% if it was due to an emergency ...

My last ambulance ride, after I had gotten shot, was $1200 not to mention the hospital stay, surgery, rehabilitation, all in all $16,000 total, and no my health insurance didn't pay a dime of it, since it was a domestic incident.

Write them a letter saying "Fuck you too!" Anyway just make sure you're covered for everything. Like the other user said (too lazy too scroll up for thy name) free healthcare will result in higher taxes, I'm implying that it isn't included in taxes so people that don't need it don't pay for it.

People need to realize that in other countries taxes are extremely high and americans hate paying taxes yet also complain about not having all these public services
9

I do the hating of taxes without the complaining for the lack of public services.

Welp, here we do the hating of extremly high taxes and complain about no service. So yes please be thankfull, if you get shot in ZA and don't want to die ,you call a private ambulance company, go to a private hospital, make sure you have private insurance otherwise you will most probably be bankrupt.

It's used by a lot of countries, America doesn't include it in taxes though.
