It always takes me by surprise. I never know what to say or how to react

If you believe what they're saying is wrong... then say something, stick up for what is right. Don't just nod and agree like a spineless sheep, or others may tar you with the same brush :)

i hate when people think they can't be racist towards a white person

That happens to me once in awhile, almost always at work, and I usually just stare at them and bask in the awkwardness.

So in my town we have multiple gas stations, most of which are run by foreign, middle eastern looking people. But there's one run by white people.

So my family went to get gas before dinner a few days ago and we went to one of the stations run by the darker skin people. Apparently (I didn't hear this cause i was listening to music but my sister told me later) my dad said to my mom who was driving "No go to the other one, not these towel heads."

So yeah, mommy married a bigot!
