Bacon priority

Possibly a limitation is used as something to make believers feel more like a part of that religion. You would forget about your religion if you had the exact same lifestyle as an atheist, I guess, and sacrificing something for the sake of religion also most likely makes those people feel like they are doing good, restraining themselves for god. A religion cannot exist if it doesn't add some laws into the believer's life, because without those laws you wouldn't feel connected. Also, religious leaders can, if corrupt, raise their people to be uneducated, and while teaching them the religion, add in some other things as well. Eventually it gets to the point where people follow an oppressive leader due to their belief that it is the law of their religion. Thus, people can be controlled through religion, because eternal punishment is considered worse than whatever horrors they must live through right now. In the end, people are willing to give up comfort in this life in order to escape pun

-ishment. There is also a heaven aspect, but that has a lesser draw. If you were told that if you believed in this religion, you would go to heaven, but if you didnt , nothing would happen, less people would join. The hell is used to use fear to get people to join, and heaven is used to keep people in it, as they now feel like the lucky 'chosen ones' And therefore, this is the reason why religions require people to give up seemingly unimportant things like bacon. (Pork isn't worth it if you are going to burn forever, right?) Laws and fear, that is the basis of religion.

*gasp* How could you hate bacon? One does not simply hate bacon!

Yeah, pork in general is crap but bacon is heaven
