Yes there is its jut disguised. For example ' I have $50 how many shirts(x) at price (y) can I buy?' or 'how many $5 shirts(x) and $10pants(y) can I buy with $50'. Just because it's not obvious does not mean that you don't use it.
I have NEVER stood in a shop, and used math that way.
I look at a shirt, its $12. Good. I look at a skirt, it's $20. Good. I want to buy a jacket, it's $20. Oh no, that's $2 more than I wanted to spend, better get the one that's $18. Simple math. Add and subtract. No use for algebra.
My high school football coach is also my Algebra II teacher (I know, hard to believe right?) But anyway sometimes i just wanna walk in the room and punch him in his face!!

*Thinks I failed a super important math test*
*ACTUALLY FAILS the super important math test*
