I hate to tell you, the gesture was nice, but a hijab is NOT adequate to play sports (I'm assuming something like footbal or soccer). No religious reasons or anything, it just ain't adequate, the same way you don't wear earing or shit.
True. I mean, I love how these girls stood up for her, but we don't know the full story. Maybe Samah refused to take it off because of her religion(which is acceptable) or refused to put a helmet on top of it(I don't know if that's a Muslim thing or not) so maybe the coach, for safety reasons, had to ban her from the team.
Not quite the same as hair, as its something easily removable from your body, religious reasons or not. But even on that note, some things do require girls (and I spose some guys for that matter) to wear their hair tied up so that its not dangling and in the way
I'd be surprised if it was for any other reason than not wanting to be held responsible for her collapsing from heat exhaustion or something.
Then again, the instant you put it on the internet, all the activists come out of the woodwork to show just how saintly they are.
But I've seen hijabs that were tight-fitted and made for sports/activities, so people do wear them in sports. I mean, what other options do they have that still respect the rules of their religion?
Wouldn't it also be offensive though if non-muslim (or whatever religion that is, I don't know religions very well) girls wore the religious thing? Wouldn't that be like a muslim wearing a cross or star of david or something?
I really don't think wearing another religious groups' symbol should ever be taken as offensive if it wasn't meant to be. If anything, it's respectful.
I'm sorta in agreement with you guest. Some people (like those girls) wear religious symbols from other religions out of respect or respectfully but some people don't and do it either mockingly or (often unintentionally) degradingly or taking away some of the meaning and religious significance the symbol has.
