AHAHAH YESS! Instead of expecting the majority to conform to the minority, bring your own food and shut up!

they weren't asking them to conform. They were simply asking if there were vegetarian options so they could plan accordingly instead of going through a whole family reunion hungry.

I agree with what you said, they should have planned accordingly and asked ahead of time instead of waiting till they got to the reunion. This person probably knows how their family is so they would know if they planned on having a bbq or something. It's their own fault that they didn't pack something to eat.

^Agree. Even if they are their "extended family" do not assume you'll always get what you want in such reunions. Chances are, they won't know what you truly like to eat; they might have some idea, but no the big picture. Either call them ahead and ask them what they are doing, or bring your own food. Honestly people, they are not going to a restaurant where you can get at least some options...

as a vegetarian, I've gone hungry at many many many events (weddings, family gatherings, school/work events). If everyone else is being provided with food the vegetarians should be as well. we don't just eat lettuce. seriously though, I've received more hate for being a vegetarian than for any of my other beliefs or decisions. can someone explain why omnivores are so pissed off by vegetarians? especially those of us who just mind our own business. we're not trying to make you give up your precious meat, we just want to eat our food too!

Well personally speaking, I'm not pissed off by vegetarians. Although I don't choose to do it, I think what you're doing is great. You keep being you. I just think that if you're going to an event you should call ahead of time and ask if there are going to be vegetarian options, and if you can't ask just bring something for yourself just in case. I don't think it's fair of you to get mad if there aren't vegetarian options at an event though. Most people are not vegetarians so most people, when planning things, aren't going to plan for the off chance that there is a vegetarian at the event. Especially since most of the time with events, catering costs money and it's not fair for someone to have to spend extra money for food that only you would eat. In my opinion if you're asking someone to spend extra money to add something to their menu solely because you don't like everything else then you're being an inconsiderate guest and I wouldn't want to invite you to future events.

I always make sure to let people know I'm a vegetarian and I do bring my own food to events whenever possible. And usually there's at least something small like salad or rolls. Sometimes I eat before events. As for the "asking someone to spend extra money to add something to they're menu solely because you don't like everything else" comment, vegans and vegetarians can't just start eating meat again because it's the only thing available. It's no longer a matter of taste, it's a health thing. A lot of vegetarians or vegans will get violently ill if they eat animal products.

I love how only guests put a comment like that cuz then they can't be hunted down and confronted
