I think what it's saying is that music helps relieve anxiety and depression. But listening too much to music can cause you to be dependent and make you more stressed out leading to depression later on

Really? I thought what it was saying is that listening to music helps you cope with stress, so stressed and depressed people like to listen to more music

Exactly. Music doesn't make people depressed, depression makes people want to listen to music because it makes them feel better.

I disagree with this statement almost to the point where I can say strongly disagree, I used to be depressed before, but I am no longer even though I still listen to music often, and I dare say that it's what got me out of depression in the first place.

Also I think that depending on the messages the music giving off with lyrics etc- if you're an impressionable teenager, it would be quite easy for your views to quickly line up with depressing ones epxressed in the songs you're listening to- music can influence the way you think, and not always for the good
