Today I was doodling in class and my lead broke like 8 times within a span of 2 minutes

Or you could pull the eraser out and place the lead in.

Sometimes you can't. If you're not paying attention you can wear the eraser down to nothing. It's REALLY irritating to try to remove, most just change pencils.
