It's so good of them...in writing this letter, and the ones they send to other kids, they could be giving them that final bit of encouragement they need to actually follow their dreams. NASA must get so many letters as well!
And this is why NASA is so awesome. They take everyone's curiosity, especially children's, as seriously as their own.

Here's the thing. Depending on the timeline, young Mr. Dexter here might not be among the first to set foot on Mars, but it is certainly within the realm of possibility that he could be on the second or third expedition as our foothold expands.

When I was a kid, I did a science project on the Voyager program and wrote a letter to NASA's JPL to inquire about additional information about the program. Their response was staggering. I recieved a huge package of information, pictures and diagrams from them. Needless to say, huge swaths of the project "needed" to be redone... and I got an A+.
to be honest, if I was his father, I wouldn't want him in particular to go to Mars, yes I would be proud of him, but once he goes to Mars, he can't feasibly come back
