Why did she kill the gazelle? Did she intend to eat it? I doubt so. You shouldn't kill an animal unless it endangers someone or you intend to eat it. Sport hunting is immoral. And Taeminneah's right, she sould have been aware of the consequences. The money from modeling would come with the price of being judged through her publicity.Money isn't free, even for pretty ladies.
Uh, I'm relieved there's another person greeing that sport hunting should not be glorified.
People say "it's legal", "it's a human right" and I just want to cry, knowing we live in a world where everything is bent the way humans want it. Shooting things with big guns is fun so we made killing into a sport. A legal one, that is. I'm scared to think when killing humans will become a sport too. God knows there's too much of those who already take it that way.
Okay, overly-dramatic, I know, but can you say i'm wrong?
i'm against hunting for sport as well- but apparently she gave a lot of money to kill that specific animal, and that money goes to the reserve protecting the other animals- and from what I gathered, they only let you do it if the animal is sick or fatally injured or something. I dunno, just what I read. But like I said, I don't agree with sport hunting.

Even if she didn't intend to eat what she shot, a lot of hunters give their kill to a local village that does eat that animal. It's not always a bad thing. Most people hunt ethically. You really only need to worry about poachers.
Damn.
I'd like to bag a gazzele. Preferably one that's on the run, the kill feels so much more satisfying when it had a chance to fight/run... Of course, I do feel warm and fuzzy when the target doesn't even know it was hunted in the first place.
And if anyone knew two shits of information, you would know parks and animal reserves make ALOT of money off of what she was doing to protect the animals. She paid a lot of money to hunt a specific animal and that money goes to protecting the animals from poachers and the reserves being able to still function. And 9/10 the animal they can only specifically hunt one that the conservationists would be killed anyway for being sick or injured.
exactly. she killed one gazelle. legally. gazelles are not endangered, and she was probably sitting in the scalding heat for days before she got the shot. she didnt just walk outsode her hotel room and shoot a gazelle. she still deserves a job... :\
No. Hunting is okay as long it's legal. Poachers are the ones you should hate, not law-biding hunters. If cats can hunt for fun then, people can hunt, too.
To expand on your point nande, lots of farmers and hunter only hunt pest animals (foxes, pigs, wild dogs) and you can bet anything the meat will either be going to the farmer or to his dogs, so it's not like it goes to waste.
@nande12 First off, I don't think it's necessary to HATE anybody. Secondly, cats are animals. I've never seen then hunt for fun except if you mean those who go after the family hamster and possibly kill it but don't eat it because they're too full of their whiscas. In general, animals do not hunt for fun and nor should people. It's legal, sure, but that doesn't make it just. It doesn't make it something worthy of display, of being proud of. As a human, equipped with all kinds of technology and huge guns you can't really say you're proud of shooting an animal who never even stood a chance against you, can you?

We don't exactly have claws or any other deadly natural parts to hunt. That's why we use our brains to make tools and weapons. Tigers and lions have sharps claws and teeth and humans have advance intelligence. Many hunters use bows and arrows beside guns. Some fish bare-handed. It takes skill to hunt, not just point and shoot. Most hunting is consisted of pest animals and/or over-populated species. That's why there's regulated hunting seasons. Illegal hunting of endanger/rare animals are done by poachers. There's even animal lovers who do hunting because they like it and know that some time it's needed to ensure the environment is balance. Too much meat-eaters, the plant-eaters might go extinct but, too many plant-eaters, the local flora will die. It's mostly about balance, not just "Let me see how many animals I can hunt."
While I agree that she definitely should have known better because of the fact that she is in the public's eye, isn't that the exact same thing some people said about "the fappening" and everybody got their panties in a bunch on how it shouldn't matter that they are celebrities they should be able to take naked selfies (or shoot X animal) without worrying about other people? Why is one ok to dis on and the other isn't?
Animals absolutely hunt for fun, lindsmolinari! Let's not pretend that animals are saints of the environment just because they're animals. Animals can do some absolutely horrible things, example of female kangaroos who will push their babies out of the pouch if they're being hunted so it will get eaten and not them. Hunting is an ancient tradition, eating meat is a necessary thing, and the fact that some people feel the urge to hunt is proof enough that we are part of the animal kingdom, and it's a natural thing to do. Just be happy that most people hunt with conservation in mind, and humane treatment in mind, and persecute the poachers, not people who are hunting lawfully, as is most definitely their right as a human being.
@nande12 I am around 99% sure those who catch fish with their bare hands cook that same fish for dinner AND don't take photos of it, smiling stupidly alongside the dead fish. Also, the hunters who keep population in balance... everything that's shot gets eaten. I know it. My grandpa was one of them.
I am however pretty sure the lady up there wasn't travelling half the world to shoot that thing just to keep nature in balance. Or because she'd be starving for a steak.
@jilaroo hun, kangaroos are herbivores. nothing to do with hunting.
It's not about the horrid things animals can do, it's about the reason: PERSEVERANCE. If a human buys expensive guns, a plane ticket and goes to safari, takes pictures of the kill and puts the head on the wall, that is NOT perseverance. It's vanity, killing for fun, also known as 'being disgusting'.
As for hunting being tradition, stoning people to death and burning female healers has also been customary and traditional. I guess we shouldn't let go of any of our valid, precious traditions, ever, hunting for sport included.
Oh, eating meat is necessary? Why are vegans alive?
The fact that some people feel the urge to rape, murder and slaughter is the proof that we do have animal ancestors. The fact that people also know enough to supress those urges is proof we're no longer animals.
Killing animals is not a right. At times it is necessary, yes. Doesn't mean we're entitled to every life on the planet.
Okay, if you want another lovely example, because apparently you've decided that kangaroos have nothing to do with the argument, then look at orca. They will 'play hunt' in which they toss the seal around, keep catching it while it tries to get away, and do this for an extended period of time. They don't even necessarily eat it. Humans aren't the only animals that hunt for fun.
Your point on stoning people to death is not valid. That was a tradition in some cultures, other cultures didn't do that they might do something else. But in every single culture, there were hunters. Without hunting, we would not be alive.
Eating meat is necessary. Vegans have to eat supplements that allows them to continue their 'vegan' existence. Talk about natural, eating something from a lab that depends on a tonne of technology, instead of going out, hunting for your own food or farming for your own food. Hunters and farmers know more about the environment and the way of animals than vegans ever will.
Well, it's a fact that kangaroos have nothing to do with this argument. I did not decide for them to be herbivores. :)
This orca example is a lot more valid to your poin, yes. Still, I don't think orca playing with a seal is the same as humans shooting to put a head on the wall and a photo on facebook. There's a lot other fun activities to do that are less destructive and don't hurt anybody, not even animals.
My point stands. It is true human kind had to hunt ot survive, some people still have to and I don't mind then doing so but this is not an excuse. Back then cavemen survived by bashing in the heads of other cavemen, if necessary yet somehow we've evolved enough to convict murder instead of praising it.
You've gotten carried away here, honey. We were talking about how killing animals for fun is a disgraceful, unnecessary behaviour. Talking about farmers and butchers isn't changing this fact. Feel free to go on if you want but my point stands.
