However the runners fee, which most likely sends partial to a charity or organization (as is almost every marathon I've been to) makes them a supporter.
Also how many people do you see running in the "Hail Satan, screw minorities, and let's listen to Nickleback" Marathon? People won't run in marathons that support something they don't; so it kinda means somewhere in their head they do support whatever the marathon supports if they do run.
