We kinda do have one of the greatest fighting forces in the world to keep terrorists away.
And really, like it or not, gangsters, mobsters, psycopaths, serial killers, and the like are technically a member of some nation or other. And they need to be put down.
Give a few years of your life, and you can get riot armor along with a decent, fulfilling job and the chance to meet some of the best and some of the worst that humanity has to offer.
America also has some crazy ass psycho people who do things that would justify being shot/killed by Law Enforcement. But ya, we've got some bad cops too.

In the country that I used to live, policemen were COMPLETELY useless (and they still are now). They were corrupt and rarely ever offered useful support. I get that American police are critisized for some reasons but hey, at least they get shit done.
I wanted to be a police officer for several years, and you wouldn't believe the kind of responses I got (living in Utah). Keep in mind, I was 17 when I changed my mind (because I found out I faint at the sight of bad wounds and would not make a good officer). Yet I still got a death threat, several people tell me to stay away from them, a good number of people (even friends) stop talking to me. I get that some police are definitely corrupt, but it's their job to hunt down people prepared to injure, maim, and kill other people (in the more extreme cases), and people who break the law in every case. Heck yeah, they have guns and they know how to use them, because they don't deserve to be killed any more than anyone else does. They can't let their job bother them the same way, or it would rip them apart, but I know from talking to the cops that they don't go out to a robbery thinking "oh god, I hope I get to beat someone to death" they go thinking "I hope this one comes in easy". They're
trained to fight if they need to, and some of them may have fought for their lives. There are definitely bad cases, and certain cops who either are horrible people or made /awful/ judgement calls, and I'm not saying they don't exist or that we should go easy on them, but all the same, try to remember that, especially big city cops, face the worst of the worst all the time, and sometimes there are no other options.
Yeah, like what about that cop that bought that one homeless guy (in the winter) a new pair of snow boots? Was it this year or last year, the picture was pretty viral.
the statistics are off considering the amount of police to the amount of terrorists. Don't know bout America, but the police here in Britain are pretty damn good :D
