Drugs are so expensive because of how the law reacts to them. Take Portugal they decriminalized all drugs. In turn it lowered the crime rate, lowered prison population, lowered drug use, and lowered taxes. I'm no expert but thenreason drugs are so popular is because its illegal. The high goes so far but adding the fact you can get caught makes all that much more enjoyable for the junky. In Portugal if you have a drug addiction and you want rehab you get rehab without judgement. In the US even on rehab the risk of going to jail stays the same.

That's a whole lot of compensating.
