Most if us like to think we will go peacefully surrounded by family and friends. Harsh reality us a large percentage will go out like this either due to serious illness or trauma.

Ah, thanks - that's what I thought it was, but I wasn't sure why it was surprising people.
If I can put my 2 cents in on this one...
My dad passed away the day after Christmas. Well, seeing this brought up all the memories that I've blocked out from everything, and, BECAUSE of this picture, I just remembered that my mom told me at his funeral, that she KNOWS she was the last one he ever saw, because he looked over at her (as the doctors were over HIM), closed his eyes, and was gone....
Sorry..... Just thought I'd put that out there...
That's really sad, but I'm so glad he had a loved one to look at in his last moments. My mother died in her sleep, and I am happy she didn't have to be surrounded by doctors the entire time.
