Well, at least for evolution vs creation, I think God oversaw the creation of the universe and evolution. Maybe he sparked the Big Bang, and he made species branch off to become new species. That's just my belief though
As long as religion does not make any claims about the physical world, everything is fine. Once it starts to do that, e.g. "The world was made 6000 years ago." or "Humans did not evolve from other animals." or "God made the world just like it is." or "Homosexuality is a chosen life style.", science will kick religion's ass.
Same cause the way I see it is our universe and world is like a computer program, god is the software developer and evolution was the process leading up to the final product of a program so complex it is trying to figure itself out and how it works but can't
Also ever noticed how evolution and the creation theory both basically follow the same paten? First the separation of light and darkness (the big bang), then the earth was formed, then the oceans and rivers were made, then fish, after fish came land creatures and birds (not stating how, maybe evolution, why not?), then god took a break. The creation theory says 6 days but what is a day to a god?
I believe God is the ultimate scientist. I believe he didn't explain how he did all of this because it was too complex and because he's God and he doesn't need too explain himself. I believe we are his creation and that he used evolution and the big bang to create us. Kind of a chemistry teacher creating a controlled experiment, mixing substances together with the knowledge of what it's gonna create. I believe he had the bible was created as a handbook for humanity, basically trying to teach us a way to live with a healthier lifestyle. To have some honor in our existence because he knows we have the capacity for greatness.
Skittles I couldn't said it better myself! I'm glad you guys agree and aren't just shooting me down. That tends to happen when I bring my beliefs up from both atheists and and christians. I don't understand why people can't just find a common ground.
Because to believe in nothing gives anonymity to live without consequence of one's actions. It reduces fear of what happens next. It's human nature to want what we want without consequence. It's human nature to reduce our fear in the unknown. It is easy. It's much harder to live with convictions. It's difficult to admit something you can not control or completely understand has more power than you. Human beings have a feeling of entitlement to knowledge to have proff of God's existence, they can't understand that he doesn't answer to us, nor does he have to explain himself.
Play the game Black and white or watch the futurerama episode where bender becomes a god to the little organisms that crash into him while he drifts into space
Pascal's wager: Blaise Pascal, philosopher and mathematian.
Humans bet with their lives that God exists. Given the possibility that God does exist, and assuming infinite gain or assuming infinite loss with belief or unbelief and God represents eternity in heaven or eternity in hell, a rational person should live as though God exists and seek belief in God. If God does not exist only a finite amount has been lost.
" They said 'I can't believe how you can believe in God. Heaven,' they said, 'be honest, is made up.' Made up, I thought, hmm, the 40th of Mozart and the songs of Jacques Brel were made up once, but hear how they exist. Something can be made up and exist because of that. We easily take for a fact that something wasn't made up once.'' - Herman Finkers.
Religion is more like philosophy than like science.
It's nice to meet someone with conviction and strength to confess an opinion that may not be popular. That's humanities biggest failure, to believe only in itself and only to care about oneself. Science if anything should give a greater appreciation of God and a closer relationship with him. He created us in his own imagine and we became creators. I've yet to meet anything in science that disproves God. Just because we've not become intelligent enough to connect the two, YET. We couldn't fly or have DNA testing till how long ago? We still have no cure for cancer or hiv. Once we said it was impossible to go to the moon, just couldn't happen. They can't cure cancer but science can prove God doesn't exist? The ignorance of that statement is as ridiculous a thing I've ever heard.
I honestly never understood the conflict between science and religion. I was raised in a completely Muslim family and MOST of us believe in things such as Evolution, the Big Bang, etc. There is evidence that cannot be disproven for both things in this case, and most schools that teach Islamic Religion (sans the ones that were started specifically for it) also teach all three fields of science (biology, physics, chemistry) extensively.
And by that logic, we can simply state that Cthulhu will come in the future destroying all of humanity, and wait till science proves the thesis correct.
The difference between religion and science is that you can't disprove science, because it's real, religion is just a teddy bear to hold onto while to walk to death.believe all you want, no one's there.
- Niel DeGrasse Tyson
Can't say the same for religion.
